Martha Dean (Guthrie) Peterson

Martha Dean Peterson passed away on February 10th, 2026, at the age of 76.  Martha was born on April 17th, 1949 in Gilmer, Texas.

The daughter of Jack and Ila Guthrie, she was raised in Gladewater, Texas, and graduated from Gladewater High School.  

She was married to Steve Peterson from 1977 until his passing in 2020 and was the mother to Chris and Danny.  She had met and fell in love with Steve while both were working for Exxon Pipeline.  While at Exxon, Martha became the first ever female electronics technician for the company.

After living for many years in Valdez, Alaska, Martha and Steve retired and moved back to Texas to be closer to family.  She loved nothing more than to spend her time with her family, especially her five grandchildren.  When she wasn’t with her family she could most likely be found quilting or hanging out with dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents Jack and Ila, and her sister Margie.  She is survived by her siblings Jack Guthrie, Roy Guthrie, Pat Penton and Myrtis Gravois, her sons Christopher and Daniel Peterson, and her grandkids Jacob, Joshua, Jonah, Logan and Kara.
